Weekly Update 5/22/15



This week's SHS Facutly PD.

Congratulations to the Girls Track Team for winning the Class C Championships last week.

Last week's Evening of the Arts  was a tremendous success.  Our students continue to amaze!  Thank you to everyone who organized and participated.

The annual Spring Fest took place this past Friday.  7 bands. 10 Solo/duo acts.  17 set changes.  Over 250 attended.  Another great opportunity for our kids to show off their talent.  Thank you Mr. Spring and Business Department for running this event.

The Spring Band/Choir Concert is Tuesday, May 26.  Kicks off at 7 pm in the auditorium.

Senior Prom is this Friday at the Biltmore.

Weekly Update 5/14/15


This week's SHS Faculty PD.

Important message from the SHS Parent Council: 
"The Class of 2015 needs your support. The Post Grad celebration, a 25 year tradition, is on the line. Presently, we have not raised 50% of our goal and need your help to keep this tradition alive. Please send in your tax deductible donations today to the SHS Parent Council."

On May 16th Smithfield High School Senior Ashley Shilko was one of eighteen students in New
England who received a Hood Sportsmanship Scholarship. Hood honors 3 students from each
New England state, the award is based on sportsmanship, community service, and academic
performance.  Congratulations Ashley!  



Thank you to all the staff who attended the Junior Prom Friday night.  Kids represented SHS well.

Freshmen Class meeting on Thursday during advisory.

Evening of the Arts is Thursday from 6:30-8:30.

Springfest is Friday in the courtyard.  Festivities begin around 4 pm.

Weekly Update 5/8/15



The Smithfield Town Council is hosting the Town Budget Meeting on Tuesday, May 12, 2015 at 7 pm in the SHS auditorium.  Cuts to the World Language, Music Program, and Math department will be hot topics of discussion.  All are welcome to share their story.

Thank you to the SHS Student Council and the Parent Council for sponsoring Teacher Appreciation Week activities last week.

Nina Askeland and Christina Palazzo, seniors in Mr. Macari's Architectural Design class were the recipients of an award given by the DOT during its Construction Career Day. They received the runner-up award for the best design and engineering of a bridge. Girls design, build, compete and win!



Congratulations to the SHS band and choir for earning excellent ratings on their recent trip to Hershey Park.  

World Language Honors Night is Thursday!  7 pm in the auditorium.

Junior Prom is this Friday! 

The SHS Evening of the Arts will take place on Thursday, May 21st.  Be sure to check out work from World Language, Family & Consumer Science, Music, and Fine Arts!

Congratulations SHS Assistant Principal Dr. Renee Palazzo

I am extremely proud to announce that SHS Assistant Principal   Dr. Renee Palazzo has been appointed the principal of   Ponagansett High School.

Weekly Update 5/1/15

Last Wednesday SHS seniors presented their portfolio presentations.  Check out the photographs from the day.

Last Wednesday the Unified Basketball Team lost a tough game to North Providence.  It was senior day for both teams.  Thank to Sue Esposito and the Booster Club for the flowers and Athletic Director Mr. T. for the shirts.

Congratulations to former SHS assistant principal Alan Tenreiro for winning the RI Principal of the Year!
