This week's SHS Faculty PD

Town Council and School Committee approved the Chromebooks this past week.  Grades 3, 6, 9 will be receiving their Chromebooks soon.

Great job by the SHS choir and band this past Wednesday!  An awesome show!

Big shout out to Mrs. Whitaker for all her help organizing the budget materials.

Holidaypalooza is upon us!  Here is the schedule for the week.

Monday, December 22, and Tuesday, December 23, will be our two Winter Palooza days. There will be Hot Chocolate for sale in the cafeteria in the morning ($1.00) both of these days.

Monday, December 22will be Flannel Day. We want students and faculty to dress in their favorite flannels for the holiday season!

Tuesday, December 23, will be Ugly Sweater Day! Like last year, there will be a contest for who has the ugliest sweater. There will be a male and female finalist from each grade, and a male and female teacher finalist.

Also, on Tuesday, December 23, there will be a Holiday Assembly from 9:30 AM - 11:00 AM. This assembly will include performances by the Concert Band, Chorus, and Guitar Ensemble, along with some special appearances and skits. The finalists of the Ugly Sweater contest will also get a chance to model their sweater, and the winners will be decided!

Tuesday, December 23, is a Day 5 (GABCD). However, this assembly will also make the following changes to the schedule:
G Period - 7:30 AM to 8:13 AM
A Period - 8:17 AM to 9:00 AM (students will stay until called down)
Holiday Assembly - 9:30 AM to 11:00 AM
There will be no Advisory or B period
C Period (Lunch) - 11:00 AM to 12:45 PM
D Period - 12:49 to 1:45 PM

We are shutting down the upstairs hallway on Monday!  Stop by the social studies wing to check it out.

Have a great week!

Weekly update 12/13/14

My apologies...I am a little behind with my updates.

SHS Faculty PD

Be sure to see my latest blog about our commended status from RIDE.  Click here.

SHS Student Paris Lopez recently did a public service announcement for Mrs. Damle's Psychology class.  Check out the video.  Very powerful!  Great work Paris.

Holidaypalooza is coming soon.  Be sure to read the email from Student Council for details.  Ugly sweater contest is coming!

School Committee and Town Council will be approving bids this week for Chromebooks.  We are getting closer.....

Winter sports have begun.  Check out for the latest schedules.

The Winter Concert will be this Wednesday.  Show begins at 7 pm.

I received a great text from an SHS graduate.  "Hi Mr. Kelley. I wanted to let you know how much Smithfield High has helped me at this point in my studies at RIC. I'm going into the hardest program here, Nursing, and the reason as to why I'm doing so well is because of the curriculum we followed in SHS. My nursing adviser told me how confident she is that I'll get into Nursing, and said with my grades I can even be a tutor if I chose to. I have a friend who went to Tollgate, and everything taught to her right now is brand new information, but for me, it's review. I figured you should know this!"

SHS art students recently had a visit from students at Bryant University.  Check out the two clips from the visit.

Have a great week everyone!

Commended Status for SHS!

This past Thursday Superintendent O'Brien and I were invited to the RI State House for a special ceremony honoring all Rhode Island schools that achieved Commended Status.  This achievement would not have been possible without the hard work and dedication of the Smithfield High School staff and faculty.  I wish all of them could have been present for the ceremony.

The SHS faculty is committed to the success of all students.  I appreciate all they do for the community.
